We’ve seen many fashion designers, but Aliona Kononova represents a fresh and new breed. She’s been turning fashion heads and for all the right reasons. Originally, from Moldovia, Aliona moved to Los Angeles where she has had a chance to grow her fashion career.
Aliona graduated from Instituto Europeo di Design in Italy. She then went on to complete her internship program with the renowned designer Salvatore Ferragamo. Her brand was originally launched in Milan, where she worked for 12 years before moving to Los Angeles.
Aliona’s edge in fashion
Aliona’s designs can best be described as unconventional. She does not limit or confine herself to fashion norms. She is the designer who colors outside the line. Her asymmetrical cuts, interesting proportions, luxurious fabrics, and bold colors are a breath of fresh air in the fashion world. Her inspiration is drawn from candy wrappers and paper plates. To this, she adds toys in a playful twist to create epic and edgy designs.
Fashion Awards and Mentions
Aliona’s work has not gone unnoticed. In 2011, she won the Millinery Talent competition. She was recognized as the “Millinery’s New Star”. She won this title alongside fashion icon houses, such as Stephen Jones, Talenthouse, and Vogue UK. Her winning piece was exhibited and placed among the greatest hats. These awards brought her into the limelight, and she became a fashion favorite among the cultural and international art crowd.
Aliona’s work has been widely featured in Vogue France, Vogue Italia, Vogue Japan, New York Times, and Los Angeles Times. Aliona is working on a performative collaboration with dancer Ryan who is an award-winning choreographer.
